Great Britain Pricing in Proportion

From the 21st August Royal Mail will be changing the way that postage costs are calculated for domestic postage. There will be no changes to international postage outside the European Union and minor changes to tariffs within the EU.

Royal Mail currently bases its charges on weight: the heavier the item, the greater the cost. However, after the change charges will be based on the weight and the size of the item being dispatched. For both buyers and sellers these changes represent a challenge. Sellers who use Royal Mail will have to amend their postal costs.

Buyers may find that postage costs that they are used to paying have changed. eBay have urged everyone who might be affected to familiarise themselves with the new system as soon as possible.

Royal Mail are widely publicising these changes (you may have already seen the TV ads) and every household in the country will be receiving an information pack. Further information can also be obtained from your local post office and on the Royal Mail's website.

Information for Sellers

So you may be able to reduce costs by assessing the types of packaging you use. There are also changes to second class, especially with reference to weight limits. Remember that this change represents a significant upheaval for sellers. Be patient and understanding.
